Using primarily volunteer physicians affiliated with two local hospitals and other medical volunteers, the free clinic operates two nightly medical clinics weekly. All services are provided free of charge. These include exam, medications, diagnostic testing referral for subspecialty care, referral for limited dental care, optometry, and social services screening.
Patients are seen on a first come, first served basis, with numbers handed-out and patient screening from
3:30 - 5:00 pm on Monday and Thursday evenings. Generally, a family practice physician assistant and a licensed physician will be on duty.
Children must be controlled. If any child or patient becomes unruly, they will be asked to wait outside the building until they are called by number to be seen.
Medical services treated include:
- Simple, uncomplicated illness (for example: rash, ear infections, bladder infections)
- Simple injuries (sprains, strains)
- Simple wound care and the administration of tetanus shots (injury less than 24 hours old)
- Non-surgical wound infections
- Suture or staple removal of non-surgical wounds
- Tooth pain treatment with antibiotic
Eligibility Persons using the free clinic services must be uninsured and not eligible for other health care programs.
- Adults and children who have NO health insurance.
- Families at low income level.
- Those who are NOT on Medicaid, Medicare, TRICARE, or A County Indigent
Program.
- Those who are NOT eligible for VA Services.
The free clinic serves patients in Killeen and surrounding Central Texas communities including Harker Heights, Nolanville, Florence, Gatesville, Copperas Cove, Kempner and Lampasas.
Required Documentation:
- Identification with a photograph
- Proof of residency
- Proof of income for household for previous month
- Social security number (if the patient has one)
Mammogram Clinic: Through a grant from Central
Texas Affiliate, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and in
partnership with Metroplex Health System. Clinic operates an
appointment-only mammogram clinic twice a month.
Women who are age 40 and over, uninsured and low income are
eligible for the clinic. At the appointment, the patient
receives a breast exam and education about breast self exam.
At that time, she receives an appointment for a mammogram at
